FOR EXPECTING PARENTS

Prenatal Pediatric Consultations for New Parents in Northern Illinois

Congratulations on your growing family. Of all the decisions on your pregnancy checklist, choosing a pediatrician is one you get to make calmly, in advance – instead of scrambling for a name after you’ve come home exhausted. Associates in Pediatrics offers a free prenatal consultation at our Elgin East, Elgin West, Streamwood, and Algonquin offices, so you can meet the board-certified providers who’ll care for your baby, ask every question on your mind, and walk into delivery day already feeling supported.

Why Meeting Us Before Delivery Day Matters

A prenatal visit turns “we’ll find a pediatrician eventually” into “we already have one.” You’ll leave knowing our providers by name, understanding how our after-hours line and patient portal work, and having a plan in place for your baby’s very first appointment – which matters even more if you’re delivering at St. Alexius Medical Center or Sherman Hospital, where our team is already on staff and can be looped in immediately after birth.

What Happens at a Free Prenatal Consultation

This is a conversation, not an exam, and there’s no charge for it. You’ll sit down with one of our pediatricians or nurse practitioners to talk through your birth plan, your feeding preferences (breastfeeding, formula, or a combination), what your baby’s first week typically looks like, and any family or pregnancy history worth flagging for your newborn’s care.

Questions Parents Often Ask at This Visit

Parents commonly ask about circumcision care, jaundice monitoring, when the first newborn visit should happen, what to expect before hospital discharge, and how our on-call system handles middle-of-the-night questions. Nothing is too small to ask – that’s the entire point of this visit.

Coordinated Care From Hospital to Home

Because we’re affiliated with both St. Alexius Medical Center and Sherman Hospital, families who deliver at either facility benefit from a smoother handoff between hospital staff and our office – fewer forms, fewer repeated questions, and a pediatrician who may already have your baby’s birth details on file before your first office visit.

What to Do the Moment Your Baby Is Born

Call our office as soon as possible so we can schedule your newborn’s first visit, typically recommended 3-5 days after hospital discharge. If you’ve already completed a prenatal consultation with us, this step is even faster since your information is already on file – see our full Newborn Care page for what to expect at that first appointment and every visit through your baby’s first year.

Prenatal Pediatric consultation

frequently asked questions

Is the prenatal consultation really free?

Yes. Prenatal consultations at Associates in Pediatrics are offered free of charge as an introduction to our practice, with no obligation to enroll.

When should I schedule a prenatal visit?

Most parents schedule their prenatal consultation in the third trimester, though you’re welcome to reach out earlier if you’d like more time to decide on a pediatrician.

Do I need a referral for a prenatal consultation?

No referral is needed – you can call our office directly to schedule this visit.

Does it matter which hospital I’m delivering at?

Not for scheduling a consultation, but if you’re delivering at St. Alexius Medical Center or Sherman Hospital, our staff privileges there can make your baby’s transition from hospital to first office visit even smoother.
